Wellness dog food and cat food is produced by Old Mother Hubbard, which began baking and distributing dog biscuits in 1926. As the story goes, a sailor threw a dog a hard-tack tea biscuit made by the A. Hubbard and Sons Company, and Old Mother Hubbard was born.
Old Mother Hubbard bakes all of its dry food and biscuits, in the belief that baking slowly preserves essential nutrients and helps with digestion. It added Neura baked dry foods to its line in 1988. Wellness dog foods were added in 1999 and cat foods in 2000, followed by the Wellness Wellbar dog treats in 2001.
